Reflection on Third Meeting 9-14

It was really nice to meet Ed Hintz. His generosity made the whole Presidential Leadership Academy possible, and it was great that he was there. I also enjoyed the discussion we had about National Security. Everyone struggled to balance the demands of keeping the country secure, while at the same time, acknowledging the importance of maintaining our civil liberties and freedoms.
I thought it was interesting how involved President Spanier was with National Security and Higher Education. When he was speaking, I found how his actions differed from the traditional academe approach to government very unique. The folder that he passed around offered a look into the inner workings of our government security structure that we don’t often get to experience.
I look forward to going to New York in October and bonding with the rest of the PLA class.
