First of all, it was really good to see everyone. I am excited for the coming years, and I’m just glad to get started.
The conversation we had about AG Holder’s decision to look into the CIA abuse accusations went a little off topic and some people ended up, unintentionally I’m sure, controlling the conversation so not everyone could speak. If I had gotten the chance to speak, I would have said that Holder must investigate the abuse/torture by the CIA because nothing less than the credibility of our nation as one of civil rights, freedom, and peace rides on his decision. If we did not pursue the allegations, to the rest of the world, which doesn’t like us very much now anyway, it would appear as though we don’t care about what happened, and that we only care about civil rights for our own citizens, and sometimes, in the case of some of the Guantanamo detainees, not even them.
I believe he made the right choice because in life there are few things more important than the idea of credibility. Without it, your word is nothing.
